I saw Domo tweet this earlier and thought he made a typo:
Really? Six dollars for six months? So… one dollar a month for six entire months? That’s a wild deal.
Sure enough, that is exactly what’s happening here, and when you click through the subscribe link on the website, you see something at the bottom of the page that looks like this:
If you continue through that jawn you get to another page with with three different subscription options, and this is the digital option being offered until midnight tonight:
What’s the catch?
Here are the specific details listed with this option:
So if you do the six month deal and then keep your subscription for the rest of the year, you’d be paying $90 total for a year of full digital access to the Inquirer. If you just wanted the Eagles coverage for six months, and then cancel your subscription, signing up today would take you through the entire NFL season, up to last day of February or so.
As you know, the Inquirer/Daily News/Philly.com is going through another round of buyouts and layoffs. Sam Donnellon, Rick O’Brien, and John Smallwood took buyouts. Zach Berman left for The Athletic. Sarah Todd is also leaving the company and won’t be on the Sixers beat this season. They also lost a bunch of sports desk people.
Interesting times over there.
