NBC Sports Philadelphia Launches New “Birds Outsiders” Show

You’re familiar with Sixers Outsiders, right? The post-post game basketball show with Krystle Rich and Tyrone Johnson?

NBC Sports Philadelphia is launching an Eagles version of that program, aptly titled “Birds Outsiders” and featuring Natalie Egenolf, Jason Ashworth, and Roy Burton. It’s a 30 minute show that will air right after Eagles Postgame Live with Mike Barkann and Ray Didinger and angry Seth Joyner. The show will also be available on the MyTeams App and Philly Pass.

Via press release:

On Birds Outsiders Ashworth, Burton and Egenolf will talk all things Eagles from the fans point of view.

“We are excited to bring a fresh, fan perspective to our Eagles coverage,” said NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Vice President of Content, Michelle Murray. “Jason, Roy and Natalie are passionate about the team. The show will highlight their lively discussions with each other, and fellow fans on social media.”

Ashworth, a former associate producer for Comcast SportsNet, is currently director of sales for Futura Mobility. He has hosted programs on Wildfire Radio and on 97.5.  Ashworth placed fourth out of 15,000 entries in ESPN’s Dream Job contest, a national competition for the next SportsCenter anchor.

Burton currently works in IT at Temple University. He co-hosts the Broad Street Line on 106.5 FM, and is a former editor of Liberty Ballers, and columnist for Bleacher Report.

Egenolf is a featured on-air personality and update anchor on The Mike Missanelli Show on 97.5 the Fanatic, and currently writes a weekly column for PhillyVoice.com. She hosted her own show, Saturday Sports Social with Natalie Egenolf on ESPN Radio 610 AM sports from 2017-2018, and was the Philadelphia Eagles national real time in game reporter for Sirius XM NFL Radio Sunday Drive and ESPN’s Operation Football during the 2017-2018 NFL season.

Fans are encouraged to use #BirdsOutsiders on Twitter to interact with the hosts during the shows.

NBC says their Sunday schedule will look like this:

  • Noon: Eagles pregame live (NBC Sports Philadelphia+)
  • between quarters and halftime: in-game live (NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com and Facebook)
  • after the game: Eagles postgame live (NBC Sports Philadelphia+)
  • 6 pm: Birds Outsiders (NBC Sports Philadelphia)

(The Phillies play at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday, which is why the Eagles stuff is bumped to NBCSP+)

Should be interesting to see how this does. Natalie is an established presence on NBC airwaves as part of the Mike Missanelli simulcast, which runs from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday. Ashworth had a brief stint at 97.5 the Fanatic, as mentioned in the press release. He was on evenings there from 2011 to 2013, a little under two years. Burton was at Bleacher Report during that same time frame and has been doing Broad Street Line for nine years.

I think they will get more people to watch this show when the Eagles play later in the day, either the prime time game or the 4:25 p.m. kickoff. If the Birds play at 1 p.m., I’d think most people are probably flipping to another game or turning on Red Zone instead of hanging around for post-postgame, right? We shall see.

So… “outsiders” are just like any other mediocre media types, just without having the access and sources of actual reporters. Got it.

Just like Crossing Broad with every team except the Sixers!

In all fairness, they seem pretty dialed into Flyers too

Agreed on the latter comment. SanFilippo is as dialed in and connected to the inside of the Flyers as any beat reporter for any team in this city,

“Woke?” That’s a guarantee. Lazy eye Natalie’s political/social commentary is even worse than her attempt at sports commentary. I would not watch this train wreck if you paid me.

All three of you are terrible, Cant believe this is the show that follows Eagles post game. Natalie all you do is sit there and pretend to read and type on your lap top…so dumb.
Jason you are a massive tool..do you even watch the game or are you just making stuff up?? I think you would do better coaching gym class kickball then being on TV. You make a bad loss by the Eagles worse by being clueless on everything that happened during the game. The Eagles are a proud football team and this show is by far the worst sports show ever. You guys should be covering single A baseball somewhere in small town Nebraska . I have no clue how you got this gig. My guess is this absolutely terrible show with clueless hos’t will not make it past week 4. Clicking over to Sports Center!!!Bye..
