You read that right. The NHL announced that after three years of working to collaborate with Green Day, they’ve finally enlisted the band to create an anthem for NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Hockey. This is deemed by many as the NHL’s response to the NFL’s famous “All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night”, an anthem performed by Hank Williams Jr.

Per the NHL, the partnership with Green Day includes two years of cross-platform marketing and promotion. In addition to the Wednesday Night Hockey song “Fire, Ready, Aim”, other tracks from the band’s upcoming thirteenth studio album “Father of All…” will be used in league advertising.

Unfortunately for Flyers fans, not a single member of the Orange & Black has been announced as part of the show open, despite the fact that the Flyers will appear in the first edition of Wednesday Night Hockey. The only confirmed players featured in the intro’s action shot compilation are:

  • Tuukka Rask, Boston Bruins
  • Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks
  • Dylan Larkin, Detroit Red Wings
  • PK Subban, New Jersey Devils
  • Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Vladimir Tarasenko, St. Louis Blues
  • Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals

The league did release a preview of the anthem and intro video after the jump:
