Angelo Cataldi’s 94 WIP radio show is borderline unlistenable, but it makes Entercom a lot of money.

That’s why the folks over there locked him up on a multi-year contract extension that will carry him into his 70s.

Here’s a snippet of the press release via Barrett Sports Media:

“He is the voice of the fans and has an unmatched level of passion for all things Philadelphia sports,” Entercom’s Philadelphia market manager and Senior Vice President, David Yadgaroff, said of Cataldi in a press release. “He sets the table for 94WIP every day, and does it at a level of greatness and consistency that has never been achieved before.”

“It’s an honor to continue my time at WIP as I move past my 30-year anniversary at the best sports station in America,” said Cataldi. “All I can do is express my appreciation to Entercom and to all of my colleagues at WIP. But most of all I want to thank the listeners who have been so loyal to me and to everyone at the morning show. I can’t believe I get to do a job I love in the city whose passion for sports is incomparable. Now let’s win another championship.”

Angelo is 68 years old, a New York Yankees fan from Rhode Island. He claims to speak for Philadelphia sports fans as part of a tired shtick that apparently still works on a portion of the 900 people carrying portable people meters in this market.

With this new contract extension, Cataldi will continue to stir up fake outrage, seek fake accountability, and fail to present facts or exhibit critical thinking. His audience then remains in a state of perpetual anger and stupidity while he laughs his way to the bank.

It’s a brilliant acting job.
