The Eagles waived Andrew Sendejo Tuesday, a move that made a lot of sense in terms of adding a compensatory draft pick for next season.

It was a brief stint for the 32-year-old ex-Viking, a player who had a nice run in Minnesota but looked out of place in Philadelphia as an anachronistic ‘heat seeking missile” (relative to contemporary league rules). Changes to NFL hitting and contact have made players like Sendejo an antiquated item, while the return of Avonte Maddox means the Birds will be fine on the depth chart should Rodney McLeod or Malcolm Jenkins go down.

Sendejo, who wanted to “Make Football Violent Again,” made some dumb plays in Philly. Here are three that stood out to me:

Play #1 – injuring your own teammate

Lower the helmet and launch yourself recklessly at the ball carrier.

That seemed to be Sendejo’s modus operandi, and here it resulted in a friendly fire injury that knocked Maddox out of the Green Bay game and put him on the shelf with a combination concussion and next injury:

Play #2 – diving into a pile of players

Situational awareness, or lack thereof.

Sendejo got away with one here, during the 3rd and 33 play in Minnesota when the Birds were down just 24-17 and playing sticks defense on an obvious passing down. With Adam Thielen pretty much corralled and going nowhere, Sendejo decided to dive at his ex-teammate anyway, thankfully avoiding another helmet-to-helmet collision:

Play #3 – 15 yards for unnecessary roughness

From this past weekend.

Everybody knows that Mitch Trubisky is going to slide and give himself up on this play, yet Sendejo thought it might be a nice idea to lead with the forearm and helmet anyway:

Honorable mention goes to the Vernon Davis hurdle from week one, when Sendejo was one of multiple players unable to bring down the veteran tight end in space, which resulted in a Redskins’ touchdown.

And look, I think we all understand that the NFL is a joke these days when it comes to contact. The problem is that Sendejo never seemed to adapt to that and wanted to lower the boom on opposing players anyway, which resulted in penalties and other things that ultimately did not help his team.

One hour left if you wanna vote:

Have a wonderful day.
