On Monday night, the Sixers play host to the Atlanta Hawks at Wells Fargo Center. The Sixers are coming off a blowout loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, one which saw star point guard Ben Simmons depart after just five minutes of action in the first quarter. Now their All-Star point guard is out indefinitely pending further testing. At 35-22 the Sixers find themselves in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and are projected to face former Sixer Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs. The Hawks, on the other hand, are an atrocious 17-41. Led by All-Star starter Trae Young, the Hawks are coming off a 111-107 victory over the Luka Doncic-less Dallas Mavericks. Can they put together two wins in a row?

With that, let’s get into our Sixers-Hawks betting preview.

Sixers vs. Hawks Odds

Here’s the line for the Sixers and Hawks at DraftKings Sportsbook PA:

  • Spread: Sixers -9, Hawks +9
  • Moneyline: Sixers -375, Hawks +300
  • Total: 227.5

Bets We Like With a Sixers Win

FiveThirtyEight gives the Sixers an 85% chance of winning with a -11 point line. The Sixers are an absolute beast at home, sporting a gawdy 26-2 record at home.

Sixers Win and Under 227.5 Total Points (+155, DraftKings)

The Sixers have won their last 12 games at home and have dropped just two of 28 games at Wells Fargo Center all season long. Without Ben Simmons manning the point, this team truly struggles to initiate their offense. It’s the only reason I’m going against the fact that the Sixers have won their last five games as home favorites following a road loss. Those games have also gone over the total points threshold, but I don’t see it happening in this one.

Joel Embiid Over 34.5 Points and Sixers to Win (+450, FOX Bet)

If Joel Embiid is going to make people believe he’s “The Best Player in the World”, he’ll need to dominate a dreadful Hawks team with a questionable interior defense missing recently-acquired Clint Capela. In two games this season against the Hawks, Embiid has posted 28.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. All indications are he will have a big game in the paint, assuming he goes back to the aggressive style he played against Broooklyn following the All-Star break.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Atlanta Hawks to Cover the Spread and Under 227.5 Total Points (+285, DraftKings)

The Hawks have a 2-0 record against the spread in night games against the Sixers in both games this season. Again, numbers can be misleading and the Sixers had Ben Simmons in each of the two previous matchups this season, who averaged 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Over 32.5 Points and Trae Young Over 32.5 Points (+350, FOX Bet)

In the month of February, Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 30.3 points per game, while Trae Young -who’s mere games removed from a 50-point outing- has posted a 32.9 points per game average in February. Both players’ averages have been up a tick since returning from the All-Star break at 32.0 and 37.5 points per game, respectively.

Sixers vs. Hawks Prediction

Pick: This should be an easy win for Philadelphia, but without Ben Simmons initiating the offense, the Sixers could have a hard time putting up points. I also don’t expect the Sixers to cover.
