Well, this is a bummer:

About three weeks ago, Gannett informed salaried employees making more than $38,000 that they would be required to take three furlough weeks moving forward, one in April, one in May, and one in June. Gannett executives also took a 25% reduction in the pay.

Looks like that wasn’t enough though, as they decided to let go of Isaac outright.

Keep in mind, back in August of 2019, Gannett and GateHouse finalized merger plans, turning the two largest newspaper chains in the United States into one big print media monstrosity. Locally, that meant that the Courier-Post, Delaware News Journal, Bucks County Courier Times, Burlington County Times, and Doylestown Intelligencer would now operate under the same ownership group. That resulted in Isaac, Tom Moore, Martin Frank, and other local sports writers now working under the same umbrella. It felt, at the time, like some cuts or reassignments would be inevitable as they absorbed more employees into the setup and tried to streamline coverage in specific markets.

I haven’t seen any other outright Gannett layoffs on the timeline, but the longer we go without sports, the more common this is going to be.

Pretty depressing stuff.
