I still can’t believe Howie Roseman took Jalen Hurts in the second round. Absolutely mind boggling.

Anyway, they made a solid pick at #127 overall, taking Clemson safety K’Von Wallace. Later in the fourth round they picked up Auburn tackle/guard Jack Driscoll before trading pick #146 to the Cowboys:

Weird draft. Really weird.

But Wallace and Driscoll are good picks, two guys that come from top-shelf programs. Both are four-year seniors who played in high-level non-conference and bowl games. There’s a lot of experience to lean on.

Here’s Wallace’s NFL.com profile, written by Lance Zierlein:

While he played some safety and a lot of big nickel in 2019, his biggest impact came when cutting it loose as a downhill blitzer, disrupting the run and smashing quarterbacks. Wallace plays with exceptional grit and tenacity. He unloads with everything he’s got on hit after hit. His hips may be too tight to hold up in man coverage and he lacks range as a high safety. He’s a potential backup safety capable of playing near the line and helping on special teams.

Eagles fans should like the pick just for the fact that Wallace played for a winning program and should be ready to go from the jump. No “upside” or long-term project type of draft pick. The Brian Dawkins references are obvious.

He’s 5’11” and 205 pounds, a nasty strong safety who will jump in with Jalen Mills in an attempt to fill the void created by Malcolm Jenkins’ departure:

And Driscoll’s writeup was also done by Zierlein:

“There will be teams who scratch Driscoll off their lists completely due to a lack of length and play strength, but zone-scheme teams who covet athleticism over brawn might take a look. He will need to add real mass and muscle in order to have a shot. His athleticism shouldn’t be overstated, but he does have range as a run blocker and in pass protection. Driscoll has some pass protection ability that can be further cultivated, but he’s scheme limited as a run blocker. His short arms could cause teams to view him as a developmental guard with tackle value in a pinch.”

Driscoll is seen as a guard/tackle hybrid at the NFL level, but in the clip below, he’s the right tackle, #71, trying to protect Bo Nix against a really good UGA defense:

Good picks.
