Jalen Hurts is a humble guy who doesn’t have much to say. He’s the type of player who does his speaking on the football field, which hopefully you had the pleasure of enjoying over the past four seasons.

He did his first WIP interview this morning, with Angelo Cataldi, and I pulled a few tidbits:

Did he know the Eagles were interested?

“I did. It’s all a tremendous blessing, just to have this opportunity to be an Eagle. I’m just so excited to move forward and work.”

Were there other teams he was talking to before the draft?

“Yes sir.”

Did he have a preference, maybe go somewhere with a more fluid quarterback situation?

“You don’t go into things with expectations. You control what you can. It’s not like college. Needless to say, this is a great opportunity and I’m blessed to be an Eagle and excited to go to work.”

Was he surprised to be challenged by Tua Tagovailoa after winning national title at Alabama?

“It’s competition, and things kind of panned out the way they did. I learned a lot from a lot of different situations I’ve been in, and I came out better from everything.”

Is it going to be strange to be a backup?

“It’s an opportunity for me to learn. Opportunity to learn. I’m here to serve this team and do what I can. I’m excited for it.

Is he aware of the debate going on in Philadelphia regarding his selection?

“No I’m not.”

You are not aware of this?

“(pause)… no.”

What would he say to the doubters this morning?

“I’m not about any of that. For me, it’s been a dream to play at this level for a long time. It’s always been a goal. Now it’s time to grind. Gonna do everything I can to help this team. It all comes down to that. My work ethic, my grind, my addition to this team.”

On doing Taysom Hill gadget and horseshit wildcat plays:

“I have no idea what the future holds. What I see is me working hard and trying to help this team any way I can and keep growing as a quarterback. I wanna keep doing those things. More importantly right now, it’s hard not being able to meet the guys like you typically want to. Everything is virtual. I’m just ready to get to work, meet the guys, be around the guys and grow.”
