Nancy Giles, Wife of Phillies Chairman Emeritus Bill Giles, Passes Away at 88
Some sad news from the Phillies to pass along this morning. Nancy Giles, wife of Phillies Chairman Emeritus and honorary National League President Bill Giles, passed away last night due to heart failure. She was 88 years old.
The news comes on the 11th anniversary of the death of legendary Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas.
Here’s Phillies President Andy MacPhail on Giles’ passing, per a team press release:
Nancy was an incredibly caring and humble woman who had a passion for helping those in need. Her smile would light up a room and she would always make people around her feel special, regardless if she knew you for years or just met you. On behalf of the entire Phillies organization, we extend our deepest sympathy to the Giles family.
Notably, Nancy and Bill Giles were instrumental in launching the Phillies’ longstanding fight against ALS. Since 1984, the organization has raised more than $19 million for ALS research and patient services, according to the team.
