Carson Wentz became a dad one week ago.

He talked about that today as part an opening statement on a conference call with Eagles reporters, calling fatherhood a “blessing” while also touching on charitable endeavors he’s undertaking during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Of course, the first four media questions were about Jalen Hurts, and Wentz’s reaction to the surprise second round draft pick.

Carson:

With Jalen, I’m excited to add him to the team. I know how important the quarterback position is, and how important the dynamic is, for me and for other guys in that room. I’ve been blessed over the years to have some incredible, not just quarterbacks, but incredible humans and friends in that quarterback room. We really endure a lot together and go through (a lot) together, so I’m excited, I’ve heard nothing but great things about Jalen and the kid he is and player he is. I got a chance to talk to him just briefly but I’m excited to add him to the fold and create a really good, healthy, challenging and competitive environment for all of us. Excited to add him to the fold.

Is he concerned at all about the addition?

It didn’t really concern me. I think my reaction was kind of understood. I had a feeling that there would be a chance that we draft somebody, just given the way our roster is laid out, trying to get younger and stuff. There’s no concern for me. I think the team showed their investment in me last year. I have nothing but confidence and faith in them and they have nothing but confidence and faith in me, so I think it’s all about strengthening that position and this group that we have. If I were to start questioning Howie and the management now, I’d really be questioning myself. Because when I signed the deal I did, it was my way of showing that I trust and believe what we’re doing in Philly, and they trust and believe in me. Nothing but trust and confidence and excited to get to work.

How about sharing snaps with Hurts? (perhaps so Hurts can do Taysom Hill bullshit)

First things first, I’d say we’ll see how that all plays out. We haven’t gotten too deep into the playbook, and how things are gonna look. But for me, it’s about whatever is going to help us win. I came to Philly after being drafted, and all I want to is win, and stand up there and hold that Lombardi Trophy. Whatever that takes and whatever that’s going to look like, I’m on board. I’m a competitor and I want to be out there and I want to have the ball in my hands, but at the same time, whatever is going to help us win, I’m confident the coaches will put us in the best situation. I’d never dive too deep into the trade secrets of what coach is working on as we speak.

The conversation continues for a little while, with the video clip below. Wentz said that he’s “pumped and thrilled” to work with Jalen Reagor and reiterated that he has confidence in Howie Roseman to build the best roster possible.
