Aaron Rowand only played two seasons with the Phillies, but made one of the most blue collar, hard working, lunch pail plays in Delaware Valley sporting history.

May 11th, 2006, bases loaded with two outs in the top of the first inning. Here’s Rowand running into the fence, making the catch, and breaking his nose in the process:

Rowand needed hours of surgery but didn’t miss much time, returning to the lineup a few weeks later. He did, however, break his ankle in August and went on the DL for the rest of the year.

In 2007, he has his best MLB season ever, hitting 27 home runs and knocking in 89 runs while batting .307. He made his first and only All-Star Game appearance and won a Gold Glove before leaving for San Francisco the following season, where he’d eventually win his second World Series.

Not a bad career at all.
