Ivy League Will Not Play Fall Sports in 2020
Inevitable, but a bummer nonetheless:
It’s official, according to Ivy sources: No varsity sports in the Ivy League for the fall semester. The Ivies are the first Division I league to make this call.
No football, no soccer … and no non-league hoop games in November and December. No games of any kind until January.— Mike Jensen (@jensenoffcampus) July 8, 2020
Mike is always spot on with these things, and it’s also being confirmed by national folks as well.
This means no Penn sports, not until January 1st at the earliest. No Big Five basketball games against Villanova, Temple, La Salle, and St. Joe’s. Huge ramifications for out of conference scheduling and a big domino effect across the board.
The next question is whether other leagues follow suit and work off a schedule that would match the Ivies, since you’d only be able to play conference games unless everybody collectively is on the same page.
Lovely!
