Tuesday, Stephen Jackson went on social media to say that Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson was “speaking the truth” when posting on Instagram this past weekend.

We wrote the story this morning and discussed how DeSean’s pro-black comments were nullified by the fact that he invoked Adolf Hitler and Louis Farrakhan in his posts. It was a message ultimately rendered N/A because of the reference to a genocidal maniac and anti-semite.

Stephen Jackson today clarified what he was talking about originally:

So he’s basically just bringing up the Riley Cooper thing again, which is understandable. He’s pointing to what he feels might be a double standard in the Birds keeping Cooper around, versus potentially waiving DeSean Jackson, which has not happened yet and might not happen at all.

“Before I got on Instagram, he called me on the phone and told me that they were threatening to fire him but they didn’t do that to Cooper. And I’m like, you’re right, you shouldn’t have to apologize if they didn’t make him apologize [editor’s note: they did]. And that was my whole thing– I don’t hate Jews, I don’t support Hitler. But they are wrong for how they are handling D-Jac.”

The thing with Cooper that I think people forget is that his re-integration was not smooth. He got into a fight with Cary Williams in practice that year, and a lot of problems were smoothed over by the existence of Michael Vick, who kept the peace in the locker room and stood up for Cooper.

To make the Jackson/Cooper comparison is natural, but a bit premature, since DeSean’s fate has yet to be determined, though I did laugh out loud when Stephen said “F*$@ Hitler, I love Jews.”

Time’s yours.
