On Friday night, the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens meet in the sixth game of their first-round series. Montreal staved off elimination in Game 5 in a chippy affair. Let’s get into our Flyers-Canadiens betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Flyers vs. Canadiens Betting Preview

After being shut out in consecutive games in Games 3 & 4, the  Montreal Canadiens got off to a great start in Game 5 as a puck took a strange caromed off the wall behind Carter Hart, leading to a quick goal for the Habs.

The Habs simply do not quit. While many teams would’ve likely rolled over and died after the Flyers took a 2-1 lead, scoring two goals during a five-minute major for a hit on Travis Sanheim, Montreal refused to.

Despite the Flyers awakening their previously-dormant power play, Philadelphia was unable to overcome the tenacious Canadiens.

Game 5 was the first time the Flyers faced true adversity. Sure, Game 2 was a blowout in which they were picked apart and embarrassed, but the Flyers hadn’t been in a leading position like they were in Game 5, only to see it all come crashing down.

Game 6 should be an incredibly physical battle and both teams will be missing key contributors as Brendan Gallagher is out for the remainder of the series after sustaining a broken jaw from a Matt Niskanen cross-check that led to the latter’s suspension from Game 6.

Bets We Like With a Flyers Win

Money Puck gives the Flyers a 40.9% chance of winning this game, installing the Flyers as the underdog like they did ahead of Games 3 & 4. The Flyers’ implied win probability, based on the moneyline, is 58.8%, which represents a 17.9% difference, marking the largest disparity in this series.

Flyers Win and Under 5 Total Goals (+215, DraftKings)

Don’t let an anomalous eight-goal output in Game 5 make you believe this will be a barnburner. While we would once again encourage you to seek out an alternate O/U of 5.5, DraftKings Sportsbook allows bettors to parlay the Flyers to Win and Under 5 total goals at good value.

Remember: In the first four games of the Flyers v. Canadiens series, the under hit. We’re just one game removed from a 2-0 shutout and two games removed from a 1-0 shutout. While the Flyers’ loss of Matt Niskanen due to suspension is a concern, expect the Flyers to do everything in their power to make this a real slog, suffocating the Habs’ attack.

Montreal managed to stave off elimination once. We don’t expect them to do it again.

Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers All to Win (+1100, FOX Bet)

FOX Bet offered a similar Phillies/Sixers/Flyers all to win prop bet on Wednesday at +900 odds and have opted to offer the Friday boost at +1100 odds.

We believe the Flyers will win, so let’s get into the Sixers and Phillies portions.

The Phillies are a slight underdog at +100 against the Atlanta Braves, but Aaron Nola, the Phillies’ ace will be on the mound. Nola has been incredible this season, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.05 ERA. He’s coming off a start in which he pitched seven shutout innings against the New York Mets. He allowed just two total earned runs over his two previous games.

The Sixers portion of the bet is where we would encourage caution. The Sixers laid a clunker in Game 2 of their series against the Boston Celtics and we did not pick them to win in our Sixers vs. Celtics betting preview. That said, it’s still a bet with a ton of upside if you’re a Philly fan who believes karma should make up for the 0-3 effort on Wednesday.

Flyers and Phillies Both to Win (+260, FOX Bet)

If you want to remove the Sixers from the portion of the above bet, you can get the Phillies and Flyers both to win at +260 at FOX Bet.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Under 5.5 Goals (-188, FOX Bet)

We outlined all of the reasons to believe the under will hit, but this is the best value for Under 5.5 goals independent of outcome. If you’re still a bit uneasy, you can get Under 6.5 goals at -275 odds.

Flyers vs. Canadiens Prediction

Pick: The Canadiens have proven to be a tougher team than many expected, but their magical run ends tonight. The Flyers will try to play a sound defensive game, especially without Matt Niskanen, while Montreal will struggle to score without their heart and soul, Brendan Gallagher. Take the Flyers to win and Under 5 goals. In a separate bit, parlay the Under 6.5 goals with Phillies & Flyers Both to Win at +391 odds.
