Following meetings between the National Hockey League Players Association and Hockey Diversity Alliance, the NHL and NHLPA agreed to postpone playoff games scheduled for Thursday and Friday. This morning, the league announced the revised schedule, which will see the Flyers and Islanders play yet another back-to-back, though the game slated for Saturday will no longer take place at noon:
The revised schedule for @NHLFlyers v. @NYIslanders is out:
Game 3: Saturday, Aug 29 @ 7PM (NBCSN)
Game 4: Sunday, Aug 30 @ 8PM (NBC)
Game 5: Tuesday, Sept 1 @ 7PM (NBCSN)
*Game 6: Thursday, Sept 3 (TBD)
*Game 7: Saturday, Sept 5 (TBD)#Flyers #AnytimeAnywhere pic.twitter.com/OV7EcnEOp2— Russ Joy (@JoyOnBroad) August 28, 2020
On the surface, this is a big deal for those working 9-5 shifts, but it has a huge impact on what could’ve potentially happened to the Flyers’ lineup in Game 3. My working assumption was that Brian Elliott could have gotten the call to start Game 3 on Thursday, the second game of a back-to-back. I now expect Carter Hart to be back in net for Game 3 on Saturday, with the choice in net up in the air for Sunday pending Game 3’s outcome.
With a few extra days to prepare and some rested legs, expect Game 3 to be a doozy.
