Does the five overtime thriller between the Lightning and Blue Jackets have anything to do with the Flyers, who open their postseason against the Canadiens tonight?

Actually… yes, it does.

Because Tuesday’s game went so long, the Bruins/Hurricanes game scheduled for later in the evening had to be postponed until 11 a.m. this morning. The Islanders and Caps skate at 3 p.m., and then it’s Flyers/Habs at 8 p.m. Two games before our guys begin might make for some pretty crappy ice during a time when it’s already 80 degrees up in Toronto. Hopefully the extenuating circumstances don’t hurt the late game too much.

Anyway, Columbus lost 3-2 last night, but goaltender Joonas Korpisalo looked more like the walrus from the Geico commercials, saving 85 (!) shots before Brayden Point finally got one by him at the 10:27 mark of overtime five.

Here’s a clip of some of those saves:

The numbers from this game are ridiculous. Seth Jones logged 65:06 of ice time. Tampa took 88 shots and laid 59 hits. There were 138 faceoffs and 92 blocked shots.

However –

This game was only the fourth-longest NHL game ever played. It was just 1:34 shorter than the Flyers/Penguins Keith Primeau thriller from the 2000 Eastern Conference semifinals and there were two games, played in the 1930s, that lasted more than 100 minutes. Those games went to six overtimes.

Bob Vetrone, formerly of the Inquirer, pulled some great numbers for Flyers fans, and I’ll leave you with this tweet:
