This does not come as a surprise and was rumored, but looks like it’s gonna be made official shortly:

Combine this news and the Big 10 news from earlier, and we now have the following conferences holding out for fall football:

  1. ACC (with Notre Dame)
  2. SEC
  3. Big 12
  4. American Athletic
  5. Conference USA
  6. Sun Belt

Not surprisingly, the decision making seems to be falling on partisan political lines. The Pac 12 has the blue states on the west coast, while the SEC and ACC have the southern schools and the Big 12 has four Texas teams. Cancelling college football in the deep south would be a bigger insult than walking into a Baptist church wearing a Bernie Sanders t-shirt and telling them that Sunday worship is unimportant.

One wrinkle here is that Nebraska is unhappy with the Big 10’s decision, and made their displeasure known publicly:

Perhaps it’s time for the Huskers to come back to the Big 12, where they belong. If Iowa is also unhappy, they can join up.

CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT!
