This is pretty significant news from the Inquirer’s Phil Anastasia:
The Catholic League contains all of the biggest local football programs, like St. Joe’s Prep, La Salle College High School, and Archbishop Wood. Every year these schools send players to various division one destinations.
One of the wrinkles that’s interesting is that only about 50% of the schools are located within city limits, so even if a school like Lansdale Catholic had a good grip of the COVID-19 situation, it might not make sense for them to play sports against Father Judge or Roman Catholic, which are in higher-density city locations. There’s a wide swath of territory being covered.
This news comes about two weeks after the Philadelphia Public League decided to suspend sports until 2021.
