In a move that nobody was expecting, the Eagles released Cre’Von LeBlanc on Saturday, leaving themselves with only four cornerbacks on the depth chart.

What gives?

Well, first, they needed to clear a roster spot to make room for running back Jason Huntley, who was picked up via waivers, so that’s the explanation for making a move in the first place.

Second, LeBlanc doesn’t actually go on waivers since he’s a vested veteran, meaning that he just becomes a free agent instead. He can technically sign anywhere, or come back to the Eagles once IR spots open up, though if they wait to do this until after the Redskins game, his contract is no longer guaranteed. They did this with Najee Goode when they released him in 2016 and then re-signed him seven days later.

Maybe that’s the plan here, but LeBlanc is free to go anywhere he wants, so there’s a chance they lose a good corner. Right now the CB depth chart is Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, Nickell Robey-Coleman (slot), and Craig James. There are currently six safeties on the roster, including the injured Will Parks. There will be a corresponding roster move coming soon.

The Birds also added to their “quarterback factory” by signing 41-year-old Josh McCown to the practice squad.

But wait! – he’s not even going to live here* –

Alright, that’s fine. They obviously like the guy and think he’s got the chops to be a coach. Keep him in the organization and train him up. Let’s gooooo.

Also here’s the practice squad as it stands:

Have a fantastic Sunday evening.
