Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas Among Eagles Cuts
Cutdown weekend for the Birds, and there’s always a surprise or two, isn’t there?
Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas did not make the 53-man roster this season, with the Birds opting to go with Craig James while keeping six safeties in the defensive backfield. On the defensive line, 2019 draft pick Shareef Miller was cut, along with Anthony Rush and Joe Ostman, who was trying to come back from last year’s ACL tear.
Here’s the roster as it stands (not in any type of depth chart/order):
Defense
- Defensive End: Derek Barnett, Vinny Curry, Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, Casey Toohill, Genard Avery,
- Defensive Tackle: Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, Malik Jackson, Hassan Ridgeway
- Linebacker: Shaun Bradley, T.J. Edwards, Nathan Gerry, Duke Riley, Alex Singleton, Davion Taylor
- Cornerback: Craig James, Cre’Von LeBlanc, Avonte Maddox, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Darius Slay
- Safety: Marcus Epps, Rudy Ford, Rodney McLeod, Jalen Mills, Will Parks, K’Von Wallace
- Specialists: Jake Elliott, Cameron Johnston, Rick Lovato
Offense
- Quarterback: Carson Wentz, Jalen Hurts, Nate Sudfeld
- Running Back: Miles Sanders, Boston Scott Corey Clement
- Receivers: J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, John Hightower, DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, Jalen Reagor, Greg Ward, Quez Watkins
- Tight End: Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert
- Offensive Line: Jack Driscoll, Nate Herbig, Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, Jordan Mailata, Jason Peters, Matt Pryor, Isaac Seumalo
Jones ended up being a disappointment. Second round pick coming off the college injury and he just never really turned into the player we saw excel in Washington. Douglas had his moments but never really took the opportunity to grab his roster spot and solidify it. He was a cornerback/safety tweener at WVU and just didn’t find that next level in the NFL.
The Eagles also have Brandon Brooks on the PUP list and the fact that Alshon Jeffery is not on it suggests he’ll be available sooner rather than later. On the other hand, keeping six safeties would suggest to me that Will Parks’ hamstring injury might be worse than originally thought. Obviously with the team’s macro-level injury situation being somewhat concerning, you’ll probably see a slew of roster moves over the next two weeks.
They can also start adding players to the practice squad tomorrow, Sunday.
