Titans and Patriots Have Additional COVID-19 Positives
This isn’t what we’re looking for on a Wednesday morning.
ESPN’s Diana Russini is reporting that another Titans player is COVID-19 positive:
A player on the #Titans has tested positive for COVID-19 per source. This puts Sunday’s game between the Bills and Titans in jeopardy. Titans were expected to return to their facility today, that can’t happen now.

This comes after a weekend in which the Titans/Steelers game was cancelled following a rash of positives in Tennessee’s camp. Their facility was closed and that game postponed until a later date.
There’s also this from Field Yates:
Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore has tested positive for COVID-19, as @TomPelissero reported.
So, for now, the Patriots have QB Cam Newton, CB Stephon Gilmore and practice squad DT Bill Murray on their Reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Pats played on Monday night but Newton did not, so Brian Hoyer was under center as the Chiefs won that game 26-10. New England is set to host the Broncos on Sunday afternoon at 4:25 p.m.
The problem here is that the NFL did not schedule additional bye weeks into its 2020/2021 calendar. When we wrote about the Steelers and Titans last week, we noted that their bye weeks don’t match up, so the NFL is going to have have to extend the season, find a midweek solution, or simply cancel that game outright and re-jigger the tiebreaker rules, going with win percentage or something similar.
For New England, the good thing is that their bye comes in week six, so if they had to shut down their facility, they could do it right now and have 2.5 weeks to get their situation sorted. The issue on the other end is that Denver’s bye is in week eight, so you’d have the same Steelers/Titans schedule snafu if you have to cancel Pats/Broncos this weekend.
EDIT –
Uh oh, now a case from Vegas:
A player on the Las Vegas Raiders has tested positive today per source.
