Fresh off winning the first trophy in franchise history, the Union today received five nominations for Major League Soccer’s end of year awards.

They are:

  • Andre Blake – league MVP
  • Andre Blake – goalkeeper of the year
  • Jim Curtin – coach of the year
  • Mark McKenzie – defender of the year
  • Brenden Aaronson – young player of the year

They’ll win at least one of these.

Curtin is a shoe-in for coach of the year, having guided the Union to the Supporter’s Shield with a squad that included a handful of homegrown kids and no high-priced superstars. Blake I think wins goalkeeper of the year, though I believe McKenzie will finish second in defender of the year and Aaronson will likely lose out to Diego Rossi, who led the league with 14 goals (and is also nominated for MVP).
