Doug Pederson Officially OUT as Eagles Coach (Updated)
Holy shit –
Doug Pederson is out as #Eagles coach, per source.

Per source, Doug Pederson is out in Philadelphia.

I’ll update as we learn more, but my initial reaction is that Howie Roseman is gonna skate here, while the only Eagles coach to win a Super Bowl is shown the door instead.
Incredible. Gross. This entire thing stinks. It might have been the right move, but the way it happened just reeks. The media leaks, waiting a week before having a meeting, blah blah blah. This makes it seem like Jeffrey Lurie wasn’t 100% sure of what he wanted to do.
Update #1:
One name the #Eagles may consider: #Chiefs QB coach Mike Kafka. A former #Eagles player and member of the Andy Reid coaching tree, would keep an eye on this one.

No thanks.
Update #2:
Keep an eye on Doug Pederson and the Jets where he has a great relationship with GM Joe Douglas

This had been rumored for a little bit. It would honestly make a lot of sense. I could see Doug saying “screw it” though and taking his Super Bowl ring and going down to Louisiana to coach some college program down there. I’d laugh at that.
Update #3:
After speaking with two people close to former #Eagles coach Doug Pederson, it sounds like this is what it boiled down: Pederson was sick of people telling him what to do.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 11, 2021
Well, there are only two people who can tell the head coach what to do. One is the owner of the team, and the other is the General Manager, assuming that person has final say on player-personnel matters. This reads like a huge indictment of Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurie.
Update #4:
From NFL Now: The Eagles fired coach Doug Pederson. Why? pic.twitter.com/OqgtkpaWT1
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 11, 2021
Update #5:
Howie Roseman, meanwhile, will be involved in the hiring of a third HC for the #Eagles, unprecedented for a modern-day NFL GM. It will be his fourth coach, after Andy Reid, Chip Kelly and now Doug Pederson.
Pederson and Roseman had decreasingly seen eye to eye on personnel.
— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) January 11, 2021
Oh good, that’s reassuring.
Update #6:
More on Doug Pederson firing: Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie wanted to take time to evaluate situation and look ahead to the future. He met with Pederson a few times. Lurie wanted to dive into what the vision for the future was and how the Eagles could return to contending. So….

Update #7:
Doug Pederson firing significantly increases chances of Carson Wentz staying in Philadelphia, a source told ESPN. Became clear keeping both would be difficult. Eagles could always gauge market or adjust with new coach but relationship appears salvageable.

Honestly, they can all go. Howie, Wentz, etc. Just blow the thing up entirely and start over.
