Eastern Division foes collide in a rivalry showdown as the Philadelphia Flyers make the short trip to Newark tonight to battle the New Jersey Devils.

Let’s take a look at this showdown from a betting perspective in our Flyers vs. Devils betting preview with odds, picks and predictions.

Flyers vs. Devils Betting Preview

The Devils return to action on Tuesday after picking up a 2-0 shutout victory over the Islanders on Sunday. Goals by Jack Hughes and Pavel Zacha late in the first period were all that the Devils needed as backup goaltender Scott Wedgewood picked up 28 saves for his third career shutout.

The 28-year old journeyman will get another start tonight as starter Mackenzie Blackwood is out with COVID-19.

Philadelphia heads into this contest licking their wounds after a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of the Bruins over the weekend. The Flyers’ penalty kill unit struggled, yielding three goals and causing goalie Carter Hart to snap apart his stick in frustration.

The netminder only made 20 saves in what was one the worst starts of his young career. To make matters worse, Philly is missing forward Morgan Frost and defenseman Phillipe Myers to injuries along with two-way winger Sean Couturier. Their depth being tested would explain why the Flyers have dropped three of their last four contests.

Flyers vs. Devils Odds

Here are the lines for Flyers vs. Devils at DraftKings Sportsbook:

Spread: Flyers (-1.5 +165); Islanders (+1.5 -190)

Over/Under: Over 5.5 (-121)/Under 5.5 (+110)

Bets We Like With a Flyers Win

Nicolas Aube-Kubel to Score a Goal Anytime (+480, DraftKings)

The 24-year old winger has one goal so far this season, and with the aforementioned injuries to forwards Couturier and Frost, guys that are skating top-six minutes will have to pick up the slack and find the net in order for the Flyers to earn a victory and snap this two-game skid.

Bets We Like With a Devils Win

Devils to Score First and Win the Game (YES +215, DraftKings)

In order for New Jersey to earn two points in this contest, they must establish tempo early and get on the board first. With 11 total first period goals in over five contests, they have proven to be able to find the back of the net early. In each of their three previous victories, they scored first and took a lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of play.

Bets We Like Independent of the Outcome

Goal Scored in First 10 Minutes (YES -134, DraftKings)

I like for both of these teams to start this game with a speedier pace and settle in later in the contest. Both clubs are more defensive-minded in nature, but the Devils have scored first in each of their three wins this season and I like them to continue that trend with a tally before the halfway mark of the period.

Flyers vs. Devils Prediction

Both of these squads will be working hard to earn two points and win this contest, and given these two clubs have split their last six meetings, this could again be a close one.

Given the Flyers’ glaring depth issues, I like the Devils to pick up a 4-2 victory and hand the Flyers a third straight defeat.
