Preview

The Sixers and Wizards started out their respective seasons with a relatively high-scoring affair on opening night, a game which saw the Sixers hang on for a 113-107 victory. The Sixers then went on to hold their opponents under 95 points in four consecutive games, including a 109-89 blowout of the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The Sixers have been a stout defensive team anchored by Joel Embiid in the paint and Ben Simmons on the wing. They’ve allowed the second-fewest points per game (101.7) and have held opponents to the lowest field goal percentage (41.5%) in the NBA. That defense has fueled them on a charge to the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

The Wizards, meanwhile, have found themselves near the basement of the Eastern Conference, where many pundits had projected them to be. To be fair to Washington, three of their five losses have come at the hands of the Top-2 teams in the conference: Philadelphia and Orlando. Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple-double on the season, but it simply hasn’t been enough to make the Wizards a playoff contender yet.

Sixers Win and Under 232 Points (+165, DraftKings)

The Sixers hold opponents to the lowest field goal percentage in the league and have allowed the second-lowest points per game to their opponents (101.7). Taking out an anomalous 239 point total outburst in the first half of a two-game series against the Charlotte Hornets, the Sixers have seen the total points go under in all six of their other games. If the games against Charlotte are any indication, Doc Rivers’ coaching staff will make the necessary adjustments to combat the Wizards. Keep in mind that after the 239 total point performance in the first game against the Hornets, Philadelphia allowed 11 fewer points with the total coming in at 219, which was under the 221.5 line.

Sure, the Wizards are the third-highest-scoring team in the league, but aside from Philadelphia -and to some extent Orlando- they faced woeful defenses including Chicago (27th) twice and Minnesota (28th). It’s unlikely they’ll have a massive breakthrough to push the total points over 232.

Ben Simmons to Record a Double-Double and Sixers to Win (+150, FOX Bet)

Ben Simmons has been on an absolute tear of late, recording a double-double in three of his last four games, including a 15/12/11 triple-double against the Charlotte Hornets. The lone outlier in that four game stretch was an 8 point, 10 rebound, 8 assist effort in just 25 minutes in a blowout win over Orlando. He’s averaging a double-double on the season as well. If you believe this Sixers will win this game, get better value for your money and take advantage of this boost.

Double Your Money: Joel Embiid have 1+ Dunks and Sixers to Win (+100, FOX Bet)

Joel Embiid should once again feast on the interior against the Wizards, who quite frankly don’t have anyone who can physically match up with him defensively. While the big man tends to finish softly at the rim (25 layup attempts vs. 2 dunk attempts), it could be worth a look with the chance to double your money.

Note: A maximum bet of $25 will pay out $50.

Russell Westbrook to Record a Triple-Double (+190, FOX Bet)

Russell Westbrook is playing like a man possessed. He’s averaging 20.6 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 11.8 assists per game. Averaging a triple double is a gaudy line, but it’s become commonplace for Westbrook in recent years. He’s coming off a 24/10/5 line against the Nets, but prior to that, he rattled off four consecutive triple-doubles, including a 21/15/11 line against the Sixers. For Washington to have any shot in this one, they’ll need a big performance from him.

Sixers vs. Wizards Prediction

Pick: This game shouldn’t be particularly close, but it should certainly hit under 232 points. Take the Sixers and Under 232 points. Also take advantage of the player props we’ve listed above.
