Washington vs. Eagles Betting Odds, Pick, Prediction (January 3, 2021)

eagles washington pick

Eagles fans were treated to an embarrassing loss a week ago in Dallas and will now enjoy the pleasure of watching their team play for pride in front of a national audience as it “tries” to spoil Washington’s playoff hopes. Or, maybe, the Eagles will simply try not to ruin their draft spot. Very exciting. Either way, for the Eagles, this one figures to be a lackluster finish to a miserable season. For Washington fans, it figures to be the exclamation point to a surprising late-season playoff run. For everyone else? It figures to be a game that only bettors could love.

Let’s skip the pleasantries and get to the Washington vs. Eagles odds as well as lock in some picks and predictions for this “high stakes” Week 17 NFC East matchup.

Best Washington vs. Eagles Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Washington      -5.5 (-110)    -240 O 44 (-110)
Eagles      +5.5 -110)    +200 U 44 (-110)

Washington is favored by almost a touchdown after initially opening as an underdog last Sunday night. That line never made any sense. For all intents and purposes, the Eagles’ season ended in Dallas a week ago. While Washington isn’t particularly impressive and probably would have lost this game if the Eagles were playing for something, they’re not and bettors are hammering the motivation angle as Philadelphia sits several key players.

As for the total, the number has consistently hovered around the 43-44 range all week.

How to Bet Washington vs. Eagles

There are a few ways to score big value by betting this Washington-Eagles matchup.

Last month, BetMGM launched in PA. Featuring a stellar app experience and $500 first-deposit match, bettors can wager on a variety of markets with a substantial amount of bonus cash.

The other notable offer is over at FOX Bet. This game may not matter–and I certainly wouldn’t bet on the Eagles to win or cover–but you can still cash in on the home team. FOX Bet is giving bettors the chance to get 50-1 odds on the Eagles to score at least once. I think they can manage that. Bettors in Pennsylvania can grab this deal, while those in New Jersey  can get the Giants or Jets to score at least once at 50-1 odds.

Washington vs. Eagles Betting Trends

Laying 5.5 points with Washington isn’t a palatable proposition, but betting on this watered-down version of the Eagles doesn’t feel like the play. Whatever is a bettor supposed to do?  Let’s turn our attention to the total.

Tomorrow, I envision the takeaway from this game being something like “that was the most NFC Eastiest game of the season,” meaning the game was fitting of an utterly wretched season-long display of football from this division. Washington gets back Alex Smith for this one, which is a great story, but let’s not pretend that should translate to a points explosion. Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts will be without several key players on offense–an offense that stinks to begin with.

The good news is that the under is generally a good play in late-season division games. It’s also a good play when the Eagles are at home:

  • The under is 9-2 in the Eagles’ last 11 January games.
  • The under is 11-3 in the Eagles’ last 14 games at Lincoln Financial Field.
  • Plays on the under are also 178-135-6 in December and January regular season division contests with totals of at least 43.5 points.

Washington vs. Eagles Prediction

If you absolutely insist upon backing a side in this one, you should probably know that home underdogs of at least four points are just 15-22-1 ATS in Week 17 division games over the last 18 seasons. Obviously, this trend points to a play on Washington.

That being said, home underdogs in division games that lost the first meeting by 10+ points are 28-19-1 in Week 17 games. You may recall Washington scored 27 unanswered points on its way to a 27-17 win over the Eagles back in Week 1.

Given the Eagles’ lengthy injury report and total lack of motivation to win this game, Washington is the right side here. Still, laying 5.5 points is a lot, so the value train may have already left the station. Perhaps consider rolling Washington into a late-day moneyline parlay.

As for the official pick…

Washington vs. Eagles Pick

For the reasons outlined above, I’ll take UNDER 44 points.

It might also be worth a play on Washington to win by 1-13 points at +135 over at FanDuel Sportsbook (get it here).

Remember, new players can grab the Eagles to score at least once with FOX Bet here.
