On Thursday night, the Philadelphia 76ers are on the road taking on the Portland Trail Blazers for a 10:00PM ET tipoff. The Sixers (18-7) are the top team in the Eastern Conference and are coming off a 119-111 road win over the Sacramento Kings. Their hosts from Portland (13-10) are owners of the Western Conference’s fifth-best record and are in the midst of a 3-1 stretch, including a win over the Sixers in Philadelphia.

Let’s get into our Sixers-Trail Blazers betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Preview

Typically when two teams play a week apart, the games can play out in a similar fashion. However, the game that took place between the Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers one week ago featured lineups that are expected to look quite different from those projected for tonight’s contest.

Star point guards Damian Lillard and Ben Simmons are expected to be in the lineup for Portland and Philadelphia, respectively. The Sixers were a mess at home without their offensive initiator manning the point and the Trail Blazers took advantage despite the absence of their incredible leading scorer missing the game.

This game easily projects to be a close one with MVP candidate Joel Embiid looking for redemption for his team, while Lillard hopes to deliver the home victory.

Bets We Like With a Sixers Win

FiveThirtyEight gives the Sixers a 59% chance of winning with a -2.5 point line. Philadelphia’s implied win probability based on the moneyline is 65%.

Sixers to Win and Portland to Cover +5.5 (+382, DraftKings)

It can be risky to parlay a win by the favored road team while picking the home team underdogs to cover, but there’s reason to believe it makes sense in this one. Portland pulled off a 121-105 win in Philadelphia in their first meeting between the teams despite being shorthanded with both Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum out. Lillard will be in the lineup for this one, while McCollum remains out with a fracture in his left foot.

Keep in mind that in two meetings a season ago, Philadelphia won the first meeting 129-128, while Portland won the second matchup by a score of 124-121. When the teams are at least relatively healthy, they tend to play tight games.

Also returning to his team’s lineup is Ben Simmons, whose absence was greatly felt by the Sixers. His insertion into the Philadelphia lineup is going to be the difference in what will likely be a game that goes down to the wire, perhaps with Joel Embiid at the line in a one possession game.

Joel Embiid Over 29.5 Points and Sixers to Win (+150, FOX Bet)

The Sixers have a legitimate chance of avenging their home loss to the Trail Blazers from last Thursday. While the oddsmakers and projected models don’t agree on the point spread, both predict a Sixers win. We believe the Sixers will win a close game, as outlined above, with a strong performance from MVP candidate Joel Embiid.

In the first meeting between the teams, Embiid went off for 37 points and five rebounds in 34 minutes of action. He did that without the benefit of having Ben Simmons in the lineup to find him for a few open looks from deep, with Embiid only attempting one three-point shot in the game. Embiid was dominant inside the arc, going 14-20 from the field and a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. His nine free throw attempts represented the lowest such figure in his past nine games. With Simmons back in the lineup, expect Embiid to get a variety of attempts and get back to his double-digit free throw attempt ways.

Bet $10 to win $50 if the Sixers score against the Suns on Saturday afternoon at FOX Bet here.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Tobias Harris Over 1.5 Made Three-Pointers (-121, DraftKings)

Tobias Harris has experienced something of a career resurgence under Doc Rivers this season. He’s continued to establish himself as the team’s second-best scoring option, racking up 20.3 points per game. He’s found a consistent stroke from beyond the arc, especially over the Sixers’ past eleven games. In eight of the last ten games in which Harris has attempted three or more shots from the perimeter, he’s hit at least two from distance.

The Sixers’ loss to Portland one week ago was a game that saw Harris struggle to find his form with point guard Ben Simmons out of the lineup. Coming off a 22-point performance -including a 2-5 performance from deep- as well as with Simmons back in the starting lineup for Philadelphia, we expect Harris to be found by the All-Star point guard for a number of good looks in rhythm from behind the arc.

Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris to Combine for Over 49.5 Points (+340, FOX Bet)

Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris are the top two scorers for the Philadelphia 76ers. They’ve been nothing short of masterful in games they’ve played together as of late. In eight of their last nine games played together, the duo has combined for at least 50 points.

The only outlier over that stretch was against Portland a week ago, when they combined for 49 points. Keep in mind that Harris shot just 5-14 from the field including going 0-2 from beyond the arc in that one. His five made field goals marked the lowest number of FGM since December 27, 2020. We expect Embiid to have another strong performance at or near his 37-point outing against Portland on February 4 and Harris to have a strong bounce-back game.

Sixers vs. Trail Blazers Prediction

Pick: This game should go down to the final couple of possessions with the Sixers getting a big performance from their leading scorers Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris. Take the Sixers to Win and Portland to Cover +5.5 Points. Also, get in on the Embiid and Harris to Combine for over 49.5 points market.
