Let’s get it back to Kyle Lowry.

The NBA trade deadline is less than six hours away, and so far, nothing on the northern front. Or southern, actually, since the Raptors are currently playing in Tampa.

We do, however, have a ringing endorsement from one of our favorite Canadians of all time, former Flyer Eric Lindros:

It’s true that Lowry is a stud. He makes the Sixers better.

The question is – how much better? If you’re moving a first round draft pick, Danny Green, and one of Tyrese Maxey or Matisse Thybulle, what is the net gain for the Sixers? And is it worth it? Green is on an expiring contract himself, but if you look at Maxey and Thybulle as assets, moving one or more of them means you have less ammunition in the summer, for the pursuit of a different player instead.

I’m on the record saying that I think adding George Hill and a stretch big makes you competitive enough to hang on to the #1 seed and beat Brooklyn in a playoff series. You stick Ben Simmons on Kevin Durant, and then let Thybulle and Tobias Harris deal with Kyrie Irving and James Harden while Seth Curry chases Joe Harris around. Joel Embiid remains the best player on the floor, and Brooklyn has nobody to guard him. They’re going to score, but so will the Sixers, and if you have to win 135 to 134, so be it. I know Sixers fans are worried about the Nets right now, but that matchup on paper doesn’t look as bad as it might seem.

Lowry watch, 2021. We’re standing by.
