Spring is right around the corner, which means it’s time for Phillies baseball and booze. Bud Light Limes in the CBP parking lot.

If you ask anybody, it would be widely presumed that the Philadelphia sports market is a top-half performer when it comes to fan drinking. We’ve had our share of alcohol-fueled baseball incidents over the years, which included a guy nicknamed Pukemon barfing on an off-duty cop.

So here’s a study from NJ Gambling, where they surveyed MLB fans in every market to determine how much they drink at the ballpark, and Philadelphia came in… dead last? –

There’s no way that Phillies fans spend less on in-stadium booze than those California soy boys. Those Kombucha drinkers (mostly kidding). Surely we consume more beer at CBP than they do in their arenas.

My guess is that most Phillies folks are pregaming pretty hard, so when they walk into the stadium there’s no need to spend as much, because they’re already buzzed or blitzed.

For what it’s worth, here’s how the data was compiled:

“From Jan. 27 – Feb. 17, 2021, we surveyed 2,631 self-reporting Major League Baseball fans who were over the age of 21 from around the country. Fans were asked how many alcoholic beverages they typically consume while watching a baseball game as well as how much they typically spend on alcoholic beverages while watching a baseball game. 58% of respondents were male and 42% were female. The average age of respondents was 36 years old.”

Hmm, well it’s a small sample size, similar to most polls. But we need to raise our ranking in this survey and climb out of the basement. We need to drink more beers in the ballpark. No IPAs though, they’re gross. Taste like hoppy pinecone rear end.
