One of the things that was said when the San Francisco 49ers moved up to #3 in the coming draft is that Mac Jones was in play at that position.

That seemed crazy at the time, since Jones was predicted as the fifth QB off the board, going somewhere in the middle of the first round. But not so fast my friends! Adam Schefter says Jones to the Niners is in play:

What would this mean for the Eagles?

Not much, other than the thought of five quarterbacks going off the board before they pick, which would push talented non-QBs further down.

Let’s say the draft goes something like this:

  1. Jags – Trevor Lawrence
  2. Jets – Zach Wilson
  3. Niners – Mac Jones
  4. Falcons – Justin Fields
  5. Bengals – Ja’Marr Chase
  6. Dolphins – Kyle Pitts
  7. (between seven and 11 somebody takes Trey Lance or trades up for him)

What this would do is ensure that one of the following players is available to the Eagles at #12 overall:

Penei Sewell, DeVonta Smith, Patrick Surtain, Jaylen Waddle, Jaycee Horn, Micah Parsons, Rashawn Slater, Caleb Farley

That’s not a bad outlook. There’s going to be a good player on the board when the Eagles pick, assuming they keep #12 and don’t trade up or down, but if Jones rises, and Lance also goes in the top 10, it moves the board in a positive direction.
