Eagles Draft Offensive Lineman Landon Dickerson with 37th Overall Pick
The Birds had Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah on the board and instead went for offensive lineman Landon Dickerson with the 37th overall pick.
He’s from Alabama. Two Bama guys in one draft! Hell is now colder than a Canadian winter.
It’s not a super exciting pick, but this guy is pretty damn good. He’s a guard/center, can really play either position, and looks like a long-term replacement for Jason Kelce when he retires.
Here’s the NFL.com profile, written by Lance Zierlein:
Ascending interior lineman whose outstanding play at Alabama will have to be balanced against the litany of injuries he’s sustained. He has a broad, well-built frame with above-average core strength and has true guard/center flexibility, depending on what a team is looking for. Dickerson has average range and reactive athleticism at the second level, but he is capable of short pulls and has the body control technique to help open holes in a downhill attack. The anchor is firm, so halting bull rushers is a check in his column, but his lateral agility could be tested by athletic rushers in sub packages. Teams will love his demeanor on and off the field as well as his football intelligence, but he must prove that he can stay healthy. His size and talent should make him one of the earliest interior linemen off the board.
Right, to the injures:
He tore is ACL at Florida State, and then had an ankle problem two years later. He then transferred to Bama and started all 13 games while finishing as a second-team all SEC player. This year, he started the first 11 games but then had a knee injury in the SEC Championship Game, requiring surgery.
So… I dunno. He’s a good player. But JOK was right there. This is gonna be another one of those things where fans say “the Eagles don’t value linebackers,” and it’s hard to disagree when the Butkus winner slides to #37 and you pass on him anyway. But the upside here is that you can ALWAYS used good offensive linemen, and it’s hard to hate the pick because of that.
