It was originally reported that ex-Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz was going to take some time off from coaching, and that was the reason for his recent departure from the Birds.

That was explained to us by Tom Pelissero and others, who noted that the 54 year old was contemplating retirement.

Wednesday, his name resurfaced via the Titans:

This is what it says about Schwartz’s role in the above story:

Schwartz will be a resource for (defensive coordinator Shane) Bowen, and the defensive staff.

“We are excited to add Jim to our staff,” Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said. “He has a deep level of football knowledge and has overseen a great deal of success on the defensive side of the ball, so it is always good to add a quality coach to our staff. This role will provide our defensive staff with Jim’s experience and perspective in the staff meetings and on the practice field.”

Seems like a good role for Schwartz, who was with the Titans organization for almost ten years, from 1999 to 2008. He’s not taking a year off, but instead assuming a lesser role on a good team. He can take a back seat, help a young coach (Bowen is 34), and not have to deal with the rigors of the day-to-day NFL schedule. He doesn’t have to talk to the media and doesn’t have to deflect when asked why Jalen Mills is playing fucking 15 yards off the line of scrimmage.

But good for him, for real. He got his Super Bowl ring. He turns 55 in June. Schwartz will probably enjoy a different role with a different team. It will be refreshing to distance himself from the Philadelphia Eagles shitshow of 2019 and 2020.
