Justin Jefferson Says He's Excited to Play for Vikings Instead of Eagles
As you know, the Eagles passed on Justin Jefferson in the 2020 NFL draft to take Jalen Reagor instead.
Jefferson went to the Pro Bowl with 1,400 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while Reagor showed some flashes but ultimately was flat during a rookie year junked up due to injuries.
Maybe Reagor will become a great player at some point, and we don’t have to re-litigate this shit every single time Jefferson catches a five-yard out, but for now we’re angry with Justin. We’re angry with him because he shat all over our proud franchise in a recent interview with Tyler Tynes at GQ:
GQ: …it’s clear you’re a budding star. There was so much buzz around your name heading into draft night. One possibility was the Eagles. At one point, I heard that you started looking at housing in the area. You ended up falling one spot later. There was that viral video from the Vikings draft room about how excited they were to have you. What was it like to go through all of that?
Jefferson: Leading up to the draft, you know, they had all of those mock drafts and people sharing their opinions on who is going to go where. A lot of people had me going to Philly. And, I thought I was going to Philly. Honestly. The funny part is, Philly was on the board and then Minnesota called me. At first, I thought it was Philly. But, I answered the phone and it was Minnesota. It’s crazy how all of that happened and everything. But, I’m definitely, definitely, definitely excited that I’m on the Vikings rather than Philly.
GQ: Will it feel any better if you ever play Philly because you’ve become this star and they missed out?
Jefferson: I’ll always treat every game the same, no matter who I’m playing. But Philly will definitely be edgier. You know, especially because they passed on me.
Yeah, alright, look – the guy is playing the “they passed on me and I’m gonna show them they were wrong” angle, which is fine. We wouldn’t expect anything different. Everybody who feels slighted wants to exact some kind of payback for the perceived insult.
But Jefferson saying he’s “definitely, definitely, definitely excited that I’m on the Vikings rather than Philly” is kind of a low blow. And stupid. Yes, we may suck right now, but the Vikings are coming off a 7-9 season and haven’t won jack shit in many years. That franchise isn’t winning a Super Bowl with Kirk Cousins and Mike Zimmer. They’ve won a grand total of two playoff games in the last ten seasons and Cousins led his squad to a grand total of 10 points against the Niners in the 2019 playoffs.
Jefferson’s a great player and we’d love to have him on the Birds, but let’s not act like going to Minnesota instead is the greatest thing of all time. That franchise is the definition of mediocre and the Eagles will turn the corner at some point while the Vikings continue to underachieve.
