Mets Broadcast Team Calls B.S. on Michael Conforto
The Mets won on Thursday, but it was some bullshit.
They were playing the Marlins at home, 2-2 ball game, bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, with Michael Conforto at the plate. He got hit by a pitch, which sent the winning run to home plate, and the game was over.
But watch the replay here, and listen to how Mets TV announcers Gary Cohen, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez call it:
MICHAEL CONFORTO GETS HIT BY A PITCH AND THE METS WIN IT 3-2!!!!! pic.twitter.com/R1QdgiRQJ5

Normally if you’re hit by a pitch, you get to take first base, but if the ump rules that the ball was in the strike zone, it goes down as a strike instead. And if the batter doesn’t make an attempt to get out of the way, a pitch outside of the strike zone can be ruled a ball.
In this case, Conforto clearly leans his lead elbow into the pitch that is in the strike zone, but the play was not reviewable so the Mets get a cheap win.
Gotta give the broadcast team credit though, for not being homers. There are countless crews out there that would half ass their way through an explanation, or try to twist it in favor of their team, but these guys called it how they saw it, and for that we extend our respect.
