This was some craziness that got lost in the news cycle on baseball’s opening day (plus a Sixers win).

Thursday night, Cage Fury Fighting Championship, which is based out of our area, held an event at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, of ECW fame.

One of the guys fighting was Khetag Pliev, a Russia native, and during his fight his god damn finger was severed. Total insanity. There were shots of him sitting in his corner with doctors looking at his hand.

The picture is very graphic, so before I share it I’m going to space it down the page a little further, so you don’t have to look at it:

According to reports, they couldn’t find the finger, and had to announce the search over the PA system. When they failed to locate the missing digit, they realized that it had been severed and became lodged in his glove, and then the fight was stopped, despite Pliev wanting to continue.

ESPN’s Marc Raimondi caught up with the fighter around midnight and gave a positive update (there’s another graphic photo in here) –

More from MMAfighting.com:

It’s unclear how the injury might have occurred and at what point Pliev’s digit separated from the rest of his body. The fighters engaged in a prolonged grappling sequence against the fence in round two and Pliev appeared to complain about opponent Devin Goodale holding onto his glove, which drew a warning from the referee. But otherwise, none of the parties in the cage noticed if Pliev’s finger was missing.

Goodale, who officially won by TKO at the 5:00 mark of round two, was just as confused as everyone else when interviewed after the fight.

“I can’t remember anything, I don’t know,” Goodale said. “I got hit by something apparently—I don’t remember what happened.”

A public announcement was then made at the venue alerting those present that the search was on for Pliev’s finger.

That’s absolutely insane. Dude’s finger basically fell off and he had no idea. Nobody even realized what had happened. And then Pliev lost the fight, too, by TKO. Crazy.
