Let’s get it back to the Pennsylvania suburbs.

There was a recent lacrosse game between Methacton and North Penn, and late in the contest things got chippy, with a North Penn player checking another kid out of bounds.

That resulted in a Methacton volunteer coach, wearing a sling on his arm, going up to a different player and punching him:

I’ve never understood why you would punch somebody wearing a helmet. Football, lacrosse, etc. You’re more likely to break your hand than do any damage to the recipient. And the weird thing about this video is that #1, who gets punched, wasn’t even the kid who checked the Methacton player out of bounds. He was lingering on the sidelines but didn’t actually commit the infraction. Maybe he said something that isn’t audible in the clip, but that’s just speculation on our part.

Here’s what North Penn Now reported about the story:

When reached for comment, Amanda Kelly — who serves as the Coordinator of School and Community Information at Methacton School District — provided the following statement from Superintendent Dr. David Zerbe:

“As Superintendent of the Methacton School District, I want to take this opportunity to apologize to the students, players, families, staff and fans of the Methacton School District and the North Penn School District for the unprofessional behavior displayed by a Methacton volunteer coach during the men’s varsity lacrosse game on Friday, May 14. Please know that the matter has been addressed. The behavior of the Methacton volunteer coach in no manner reflects the values of competitive sportsmanship nor the values of our Methacton School District community.

I further wish the very best for the Methacton School District and the North Penn School District lacrosse programs for the remainder of the season.”

The identity of the coach has not been released at this time.

Sources at Friday’s lacrosse match told North Penn Now that the player wearing jersey number 1 is a senior at North Penn High School. Additionally, the source stated that the player’s family has stated that they intend to press charges, however we have not been able to corroborate that statement.

Additionally, 6 ABC says they went to the coach’s house, but nobody answered the door. He hasn’t been charged with anything, though Towamencin Police are investigating. Normally if you punch a kid in the face, you’re done, especially in this day and age of “cancel culture,” but maybe that’s the end of this story. We’ll see if charges do indeed come.
