Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuval! –

Tim Tebow is 33 years old and hasn’t played a meaningful NFL game since 2012. He did, of course, play preseason games for the Eagles in 2015, which resulted in a million media members going down to training camp that year, but he was cut in September and Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley were handed the backup QB jobs behind Sam Bradford. What a fantastic year that was.

Tebow later had a minor league baseball stint with the New York Mets, and now here he is in 2021 with a chance to win a job under his former Florida head coach, Urban Meyer.

One of takes you’ll see on social media is people complaining that Tebow gets another crack at the NFL, but Colin Kaepernick does not. The gripe is that Tebow hasn’t done jack shit to deserve another shot, while Kap does deserve the chance. I guess that’s up to you, the individual, to decide, but I think we all know that if Meyer wasn’t coaching the Jags, that this would not be a thing. Plus, Tebow is coming in as a tight end and not a quarterback, so he’s attempting a positional switch as a last-ditch effort to revive his NFL career. It’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison, though I get where people are coming from.

It’s fascinating just how much needle-moving Tebow does. I got my two year old out the door this morning and turned on ESPN, just as Mike Greenberg was introducing a Tebow segment on Get Up. It’s been all over social media, too. He’s already been added as TE4 on a depth chart that includes Chris Manhertz, James O’Shaughnessy, and Luke Farrell.

The thing about the Jags is that their tight ends absolutely stink. Last year’s leading TE yardage-compiler was Tyler Eifert, who became a free agent. O’Shaughnessy caught 38 passes for 262 yards. Manhertz barely did anything for Carolina last season and Farrell is a rookie coming out of Ohio State. Ain’t nobody going to the Jags for fantasy football tight ends or meaningful player props.

So…… Tebow may have a legit shot to win a job? No joke. It’s not like he’s competing with prime Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez for a roster spot. He seriously could beat out one or two of these bums and become a TE3 at age 33.

Anyway, this is our obligatory Tim Tebow post. It’s all fascinating, just seeing how much media attention he draws.
