Well this one came out of nowhere.

The expansion Seattle Kraken are going with former Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol as their guy:

Hakstol coached 3.5 seasons here in Philly. He finished with a 131-101-42 record and went 4-8 in the postseason while seeing his teams twice bounced in the first round. After his 2018 firing, he took an assistant coaching gig with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Flyers fans will probably get a few laughs out of this appointment, but this situation makes 10x more sense for Hakstol than the Philly job back in 2015, right? Expansion team, lot of young guys, no real expectations in year number one. Plus, he’s got NHL experience now and is no longer a college coach trying to make the transition to the pro game. And they don’t have hardcore hockey fans out there. They have Starbucks-drinking hipster soccer fans (shoutout Seattle Sounders).

It’s not a sexy hire, and won’t set off fireworks, but we ripped Gabe Kapler and Brett Brown and other underachievers in this city and they’re not looking so bad now. Never know. Maybe Hakstol does well out there.

Will the Flyers play a tribute video for him when the Kraken come to Philly?

Odds on that are -800 right now at the Crossing Broad sports book.
