Break out your Freddy Galvis t-shirt jerseys because he’s coming home.

Defense, as you know, wins championships.

The Phillies have reportedly traded for the 31-year-old infielder, who, all kidding aside, will provide a substantial upgrade to baseball’s worst combination of shortstop and third base defense — when he comes off the injured list. That statement is my personal opinion, one supported by the team’s gruesome defensive runs saved metric this season.

As a point of comparison, Galvis has -1 defensive runs saved this season, which is uncharacteristically low for him, but Didi Gregorius has produced -9 defensive runs saved at shortstop, while Alec Bohm has -12 defensive runs saved at third base.

Galvis, who is hitting .249 with a .720 OPS and nine homers in 249 at-bats this season, was placed on the injured list in late June after suffering an injury to his right quad. He was initially expected to miss somewhere between one to two months, but is expected back in the coming days.
