Another Action News GOAT is Retiring

At some point, all of these local television news legends were going to retire.
That’s the big story on Action News today. Another Philly GOAT deciding to call it a career and move on to whatever comes next. This time it’s morning meteorologist David Murphy, as written up at the WPVI website:
Longtime meteorologist and reporter David Murphy is forecasting the next chapter for himself. He will be retiring next month after three decades with Action News.
Murphy joined Action News in 1990 as a general assignment reporter before becoming a meteorologist in 2004, and has been the weekday morning meteorologist for Action News Mornings (4:00-7:00 a.m.) and Action News at Noon for the past 17 years.
He earned Seals of Approval from both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association, and holds a Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University.
Murphy’s final day on Action News is Sept. 7, announced Bernie Prazenica, president and general manager of WPVI.
It seems like every meteorologist has a cert from Mississippi State. Are there any other schools with weather programs?
Anyway, Murphy has been on Channel 6 since I was seven years old. That’s crazy. Action News put together a ridiculous lineup of GOATs, all of whom remained at the station for decades and made it the juggernaut it is. You’ve got Jim Gardner, Rick Williams, Monica Malpass, Cecily Tynan, Gary Papa, Dave Roberts, etc. They are/were STACKED.
Congrats to David Murphy on one hell of a career. Now let’s send it over to Ducis Rodgers, with sports.
Kevin has been writing about Philadelphia sports since 2009. He spent seven years in the CBS 3 sports department and started with the Union during the team's 2010 inaugural season. He went to the academic powerhouses of Boyertown High School and West Virginia University. email - k.kinkead@sportradar.com
