Per Jon Heyman:

This is a good move for the Dodgers, who obviously did not have enough pitching between Clayton Kershaw, Max Scherzer, Walker Buehler, and Julio Urias (and Treinen/Kelly/Jansen/Bickford/etc). Go ahead and add a former World Series MVP why don’t you.

Hamels is 37 years old at this point and only started one game for the Braves last year. He had a shoulder injury and hasn’t seen consistent work since 2019, when he started 27 games for the Cubs and logged a 3.81 ERA. We always wondered if the Phillies would bring him back here to finish his career, but that never happened, and didn’t seem likely anyway:

So Hamels is going home to Southern California for what might be a last MLB ride. Unless he morphs into Jamie Moyer while he’s out there and plays into his late 40s.
