Jake Arrieta’s Chicago return has just wrapped up:

Arrieta absolutely stunk out there. 20 starts this season with a 6.88 ERA. He logged career high H/9, HR/9, and BB9 numbers. Looked like an even worse version of the guy who came to Philly in 2018.

It wasn’t long ago that Arrieta was a Cy Young and World Series winner. 2015 and 2016! He was ~30 years old then and is 35 now, so I guess life comes at you fast. According to Christopher Kamka at NBC Sports Chicago, Arrieta’s 6.88 ERA this season is the highest in #Cubs history for a season with at least 20 starts.” That’s crazy. It’s not even that Arrieta regressed a little bit, it’s that he sailed straight off the face of Kyrie Irving’s flat Earth.

Also, I’ve just been told by a source that the Phillies are retroactively adding Arrieta to the 10-day injured list. Retroactive to 2019. He has a hangnail.
