At The Philadelphia Inquirer, Keith Pompey wrote about the Sixers’ offseason, which has thus far come without a large personnel splash.

The team re-signed Danny Green and Furkan Korkmaz while adding Andre Drummond and Georges Niang in free agency. They drafted Jaden Springer out of Tennessee and re-signed Rayjon Tucker on a two-way contract. A Ben Simmons trade has not materialized, and so Keith has the Sixers falling off a bit as he looks over the Eastern Conference.

He writes:

I would personally disagree with the sixth seed thing here. The Sixers’ starting lineup, which remains intact, had a behemoth net rating last season and that entire group returns this year. I don’t see them falling out of the top four in the East. My top three remains Bucks/Nets/Sixers.

GM Daryl Morey, as you know, is active on social media, and will reply to the occasional story about his team. He did so for this post, linking to a set of NBA futures:

I think we all know a Ben Simmons trade is being discussed, so it’s not like the Sixers gotta get everything nailed down 100% right at this very moment. Thus, we affix the asterisk.

And, as a blanket rule, how is one supposed to feel about a General Manager citing futures to back up the current job he’s doing? Something about this seems a little weird. It’s like, “let us share the DraftKings odds, and you focus on getting Dame Lillard to Philadelphia.” There’s a portion of people out there who think a GM or player or anybody involved with the team is wasting their time responding to media articles on Twitter.

But it does play well with another demographic. Younger folks seem to appreciate Morey’s social media presence. He’s out here tweeting about NFTs and dropping hints and clues and jokes, which that crowd gobbles up. A generational divide, perhaps.

Bottom line, if Morey flips Ben Simmons for a superstar perimeter player, nobody will give a shit what he does on Twitter.
