Eagles Team Up to Donate Football Helmets to Local High Schools
Let’s get it back to the Eagles.
Today the Birds’ PR staff sent out a release and some photos revealing that they’ve partnered with Xenith to donate football helmets to some local schools:
“The Philadelphia Eagles and Xenith, a recognized industry leader in helmet technology, teamed up to provide brand-new Top-Performing Xenith helmets to over 150 varsity football players across three Philadelphia-area high schools: Simon Gratz Charter, Mastery Charter North and Cheltenham High School.
This helmet donation was spearheaded by Eagles’ Pro Bowlers Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Jason Kelce who jointly decided to invest their Pro Bowl grants in local youth football programs. The Philadelphia Eagles contributed an additional $20,000 to the players’ $15,000 grants. Xenith matched the Eagles’ contributions in helmets back to local schools, bringing the total donation amount to $70,000 worth of equipment.
…
Through its Youth Football Program, the Eagles are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of Eagles fans through increased participation in youth football across the Greater Philadelphia Area.”
This is pretty cool, and badly-needed, too. I used to shoot high school football for channel 3 and some of these city schools didn’t even have matching uniforms and helmets. It looked like they just cobbled together whatever equipment they could find, so the offensive line would go out there and one guy is wearing yellow pants and the other four are wearing white pants. The least we can do is get these kids properly outfitted, so props to the Eagles for helping out. Jason Kelce, Brandon Graham, and Fletcher Cox – good on them for donating their Pro Bowl money.
