Philadelphia Bringing Back Some COVID Restrictions (Updated)
Thanks to morons, COVID-19 cases are rising again in Philadelphia, which means the return of restrictions.
The city is delivering the news via press conference right now, but so far the rules are:
- proof of vaccination or required masks for employees and customers inside Philadelphia businesses
- mandatory vaccines or double masking for city employees
- mask required for outdoor, non-seated events with more than 1,000 people
Nothing crazy, but still disappointing to see that we’re going backwards again after all restrictions were lifted this summer. Mayor Kenney went on Twitter to share the information as well:
With the spread of the Delta variant, we need to take stronger steps to protect our residents.

NBC 10, citing a source, says that the “mask mandate for large outdoor gatherings won’t include seated events such as baseball games.” Sounds like we’re in the clear for Phillies and Eagles games, for the time being. Nothing right now on how the Wells Fargo Center will function when the Flyers and Sixers start up again, assuming these restrictions remain in place.
Mayor Kenney said on the call they’re having “ongoing discussions” with Made in America and that they’re trying to work things through on the outdoor front. There wasn’t anything concrete said about that, so it would seem as though we’re standing by for word from the teams on whether or not these moves from the city will result in new protocols at the sports complex. Hopefully not. Wearing a mask while watching a game SUCKS.
Edit 1:
RE: Citizens bank park, the city says masks will be required “in the indoor spaces.” The city says they’ll “get back to” the media on the Wells Fargo Center, and at the moment there are no outdoor restrictions involving CBP or Lincoln Financial Field.
