Some NFL news of local significance:

Good for Walker, for real.

He played for Matt Rhule on those solid Temple teams of a few years ago. Couple of 10-4 records with wins over Penn State, Cincy, and a ranked Navy team. He threw for 10,000 yards and more than 70 touchdowns for the Owls and was a threat on the feet those first three years.

Walker went undrafted in 2017, but found himself on and off of the Colts’ practice squad. When the XFL returned, he was assigned to the Houston Roughnecks, and finished the COVID-shortened season with a 5-0 record, 1,338 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and four interceptions.

That earned him another NFL shot, this time under Rhule, who was in his first year with the Panthers. Walker made a couple of appearances in place of the injured Teddy Bridgewater, went into camp this year competing for the backup job, and beat out Grier to become the #2 behind Sam Darnold.

Cool story, even if you hate Temple. Guy goes undrafted, finds his way to the XFL, then claws his way back to the NFL.
