Random Eagles nugget here.

Matt Lombardo, who used to cover the Eagles for NJ.com and host on 97.5 the Fanatic, is now writing for FanSided. In a column published Wednesday, he dropped a note about one of the Birds’ tight ends, but not the one you’re thinking of:

…don’t be surprised if Eagles general manager Howie Roseman winds up moving one of Philadelphia’s other tight ends … Dallas Goedert.

Trading Goedert, the No. 49 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and a favorite of former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson would signify a complete exorcism of the franchise’s only Super Bowl winning coach’s influence.

According to multiple league sources, Roseman discussed moving Goedert in a trade with the Vikings before Minnesota over (sic) on to acquire Chris Herndon in a deal with the Jets.

There’s a belief inside the league that if the Eagles ultimately wind up trading for Deshaun Watson, that Goedert could be a piece of the package Roseman offers the Texans for the embattled quarterback.

Hmm. Well, Goedert is in a contract year. He hits the cap around $1.7 million but becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season. Obviously they haven’t extended him, and they’re either gonna have to offer him a new deal or try to get some value before he walks.

One of thoughts was that Goedert would assume Zach Ertz’s TE1 job if the Birds decided to move Ertz. That didn’t happen, so unless the Eagles run a lot of 12 personnel, Goedert’s snaps will look similar to what we’ve seen in years past. It’s hard to say. You’ve got a new head coach and we’re not sure what Nick Sirianni prefers when it comes to his tight end group.

Something to keep an eye on. The Birds can always bring back Richard Rodgers for the 17th time if they move one of Ertz or Goedert. Dick Rod is a capable TE2.
