In the grand scheme of things, the Eagles didn’t lose Sunday’s game because of Darius Slay.

Citing Pro Football Focus numbers, Jeff Kerr from CBS posted this on Monday afternoon:

“Darius Slay was targeted 4 times by the #Chiefs. Allowed just 2 catches for 19 yards.”

On the season, he’s only allowed seven receptions for 40 yards. He’s been good in the Eagles’ heavy Cover-2 scheme, which saw them instead get gashed on the ground to the tune of 200 Kansas City yards. Say what you will about the Birds’ overall defense, but Slay isn’t anywhere close to being the problem.

That said, I’m not sure what the genesis of this tweet is, but he wanted to remind everybody that he’s been pretty good over the years:

Slay got ripped for this, generally to the tune of “hey the entire defense sucks, so nobody cares about your individual numbers.” That would seem like a reasonable take on the surface. It’s kind of like a stinky basketball team where the star player still gets his points, even though they’re losing by 30. In that sense, Darius Slay is Jerami Grant.

This is the other Slay note that popped up after the game:

This shit does, indeed, suck. The Eagles gotta figure out something defensively. They aren’t great against the run, but if they bring a safety down and go single-high with man coverage on the outside, is Steven Nelson going to be able to hold his own? Slay? Avonte Maddox? They’ve been spending a lot of time in sub packages, but at some point they’re gonna have to try to mix and match and give different looks to the opposing QB. Jonathan Gannon doesn’t have a ton of talent to work with, especially in the linebacking corps, so we’ll see if he’s got some kind of solution here.
