The Eagles traded Joe Flacco to the Jets on Monday evening for a 6th round draft pick that can become a 5th rounder based on playing time.
That is highway robbery. The fact that somebody traded for Joe Flacco in the first place is insane, and then the fact that they gave up something better than a 7th rounder is even crazier. For 36 year old Flacco, who hasn’t played a single snap this season.
But alas, that’s what the Jets did, because Zach Wilson is hurt and they’re likely gonna roll out a guy named Mike White this weekend, who came out of Western Kentucky a few years ago.
With the Eagles ripping off another good trade, here’s the current list of 2022 draft picks:
That’s a treasure trove. Unfortunately Howie Roseman is going to be running the draft, although it has to be said that he did well in 2021. He got the Heisman Trophy winner, and Landon Dickerson looks like a piece for the future as well. The Zech McPhearson pick stunk, but Kenneth Gainwell can play. Jury still out on Milton Williams and the other guys.
This is a move that makes a ton of sense though, moving Flacco. As soon as they traded for Gardner Minshew, Flacco should have been bumped down to QB3. We all knew he wasn’t going to play. If they put Flacco on the field, this season would be a failure. It was all about evaluating Jalen Hurts, and/or Minshew, and if Flacco played a single snap then you could justify firing the entire coaching staff and front office for malpractice.
